"The Lieutenant" airs on the GetTV cable channel beginning April 6, 2016

Matt Roush reported on his column today the following info:

"A rare chance to view a forgotten TV classic, as cable's GetTV presents Gene (Star Trek) Roddenberry's first TV series, the 1963-64 drama The Lieutenant, in four-hour blocks on Wednesdays through April (8/7c). Gary Lockwood stars as a Marine officer serving and dealing with military intrigue at peacetime Camp Pendleton, under the supervision of Robert Vaughn (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) as Capt. Ray Rambridge."

Right now they're showing 'To Set It Right', the episode about racism, which, according to a review here, was never aired on TV (until now). With Nichelle Nichols, three years before "Star Trek", in an intelligent, assertive role. She's damn good. As is Robert Vaughn-- you can see that he was destined for starring roles. I was born in '61 but never heard of this series until tonight. Seems like there ought to be some sort of ceremony for a never-shown 'controversial' episode FINALLY making it onto broadcast TV after more than half a century. Gene Roddenberry must be smiling, wherever he is...

The episode To Set It Right did air as part of the series. I remember very well. It is about a black soldier who is assigned to a white NCO's pattoon who was a racist in the high school they both attended. Rice forces them to work together in order to show that color does not matter when you must trust each other if they want to survive.
Michelle Nichols plays the soldier's wife.

Looks like they've secured The Lieutenant for May's line up. :(

Well here's a sad situation... As of May, GET-TV has changed it's format and discontinued THE LIEUTENANT! They have relegated movies to (mostly) overnight and added many hours of mostly mediocre 1980s TV shows (RIPTIDE, AIRWOLF) and a few seldom seen 60s sitcoms (THE JIMMY STEWART SHOW, NANNY AND THE PROFESSOR and THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR.) Happily, the VARIETY SHOWS (THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW, MERV, etc.) are remaining. With THE LIEUTENANT- I had hoped they would continue to add seldom seen TV shows with historic backgrounds (Like the LIEUTENANT with it's Gene Roddenberry/STAR TREK roots.) in blocks where they would be seen uncut. I hope they return THE LIEUTENANT at a later date. Does anyone know if it will???

I was very lucky to get the dvd's last month and I am about 10 episodes in. Part of the fun is noticing how many of the actors also appeared on Star Trek, which makes sense since this was created by Gene Roddenberry. I think every episode has at least one, other than Gary Lockwood. The episodes themselves are very good so far. I have heard they are the most realistic depiction of the Marines, at least at that time and I wonder how much the actual USMC cooperated with them, maybe even allowing them to film on location. It certainly feels authentic. I haven't seen many military tv series. Most of MASH. Some of JAG. A few seasons of Hogan's Heroes.
Lockwood is very strong as Lt Rice and I was pleasantly surprised to see the terrific Robert Vaughn as his CO.
Of course there is very little diversity and so far no mention of LGBTQ. Good.
