B+W EPISODE WHERE EVERYONE HAS NO EYES AND THEY ARE ON ANOTHER PLANET

I can't remember much but searching for the Medium i.e. Tales of Tomorrow or Kraft Suspense Theater where the location is another planet and the entities has no eyes maybe no nose. I saw this in the early 60's or mid 60's on T.V. Can't remember where or what...

Thank you.

Kraft Suspense Theatre was filmed in color, not b&w, and they didn't do science fiction stories.

From your desription, and allowing for the passage of time, what you described sounds to me an awful lot like a 1964 Outer Limits episode, A Feasibility Study, a grim, talky, cerebral episode in which a lot of people's bodies are literally falling apart, set in suburban L.A. community that was literally lifted and moved to another planet. You might want to check out The Outer Limits first season episode list amd also do a little googling around the Web. There (or were) at least a half-dozen Outer Limits fansites that list all the episodes, describe what they are about, analyze them. It's a good one, full of good ideas, so-so drama.

Thank you for posting and your answer. I watched a few minutes of this episode and know this isn't it. It's not really Outer Limits or Twilight Zone; more obscure. Plus it's not terrifying. More like Ray Bradbury kind of storytelling.

You may be remembering a 1961 B&W television series on CBS called "Way Out" hosted (and often written) by fantasist Roald Dahl.

It was a brief 14 episodes, and was often described as Twilight Zone on LSD. There is at least one, possibly two, episodes that sound vaguely like* the description you gave, but I don't think any of them took place on another planet. Strictly Earthbound, IIRC.

This series is exceedingly hard to find. I'm not aware of any VHS or DVD release. I once wrote to David Susskind, Jr. (his father exec produced it) to ask him to release it, but he declined. It was just too brief and the size of the audience that remembers it -- or heard of it second hand -- is too small to break even financially. If you live in NYC or Los Angeles, I believe they might be available for viewing at the TV & Radio Museums they have in those cities, although you might have to do some good acting to convince them that you are a "media studies researcher" or something similarly serious.

Way Out's makeup man, Dick Smith, went on to do The Exorcist and Dustin Hoffman's old Indian face for Little Big Man . . . which is a key reason the show's shocking effects made it memorable to the few people who saw them in 1961.

Dear hockeyhrs,

Thank you for your reply but as I looked at all the titles of the episodes above I don't think any one of them resonated with me except the Barry Morse photo which hit a nerve. No explanation of the episode which was weird....so I don't know.

I'll keep trying to find out.

I remember the ep w/Lee Marvin quite well. Actually, I only remember the people dressed in stocking suits and Lee. It scared me as a kid and it was truly one of the weirdest TV shows I've ever seen. It was perhaps Kraft Suspense or Playhouse 90 or similar show of which there were a few. I've been looking for it; got to see it again! It still haunts me. If you find out which, please let me know. If I find out, I will post. It wasn't Outer Limits or one of those. It was a small TV studio type of broadcast, much like a stage play set.

Hi Don,

Thanks for your reply. I can't believe I'm talking to someone who kind of knows the show I'm talking about! I've been thinking about this for 40+ years! Thinking that maybe I dreamed it. I've got to find out what it is or see it again also! I also know it wasn't Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. But someone contacted me and said Kraft Suspense Theater was only in color not B&W. A few years ago someone told me it maybe was Tales of Tomorrow which I don't recall at all.

I only remember it was Ray Bradbury like...so how do we find this?

Best,

Hey Robin
It will be tough to track this one since I don't see it readily listed in Lee Marvin's performances, unless I don't recognize the title which could very well be since I don't know the title. I remember Lee in the foreground with numerous actors in full body stockings walking slowly around the stage and Lee seemingly could not evade them. Don't what he was doing, where it was, the plot, nothing, just that scene which I remember well as the most bizarre scene I've ever witnessed on TV and I will never forget it. I want to see it again for old times sake and because I majored in drama and tv/communications in college and I'm interested in this unique story and staging. Also, mom died not too long ago and I've been retracing my steps something serious the last couple of years, all the things I did as a kid, what she did, where she grew up, etc. So I'm sort of reliving my past, year by year.
I cant remember if this show was early 60s or late 50s, but I remember it as b&w. I did watch Playhouse 90 back then; maybe that's it. I'll keep searching. Let me know if you find a lead. Perhaps the Museum of TV Broadcast History in NYC will know something. I'll give them a call in the near future.
Will get back to you.
Thanks and keep searching!

Hi Don..how do you know it was Lee Marvin? I think my story or episode took off before his career did. You're as dedicated as I am in solving this mystery. Maybe we're talking about 2 separate stories or ideas. I remember it as B&W. It's all hazy as time goes on. I think it was the early 60s. Maybe Museum of tv and radio in Beverly Hills knows. The Paley Museum.

Keep me posted. .we'll be investigating together.

I hope you read Way Out's episode descriptions/summaries (not just the titles)! Don't give up on Way Out until you sample what YouTube offers

Thriller (hosted by Boris Karloff) and One Step Beyond (hosted by John Newland) are other possibilities, but again, were strictly Earthbound.

What images/characteristics of this episode has you convinced that it took place on another planet? I'm starting to wonder if the off-Earth criteria is a false memory (or a cross-breed with some other ep of some other TV show).

reply

Hi hockeyhrs,

I did read Way Out's descriptions except the one with the photo where 1/2 the face is smudged away, no description given. I've seen most of the Thrillers on Ch. 3 (the Me channel)here in Agoura Hills..they play that series a lot but so far 0 recognition. I've also thought of One Step Beyond but don't think so. Just memory makes me think it takes place on another planet, pretty sure. Anything can be true...

How many "entities with no eyes and maybe no nose" were involved?

Was this in Black&White or Color?

Recurring characters or anthology?

60 or 30 minute episode length(s)?

Was there a host? And if so, was he on-screen or off-screen?

reply

I can't remember how many entities had no eyes and no nose...that's a blur.

In B&W

I don't think it was a recurring character or anthology

Don't remember how long it was but think longer than 60 minutes or that.

Don't remember a host.

Don answered my Posting and seems to remember what I'm thinking of...1st one! Look at my page to see what he says earlier.
