I am really enjoying watching her show. Her fashions, hairdos...not to mention that powerful voice of hers. This was truly a time capsule from the 1960's.
I'm a big fan of hers....since the late 50's after seeing her in The Wizard of Oz on television. The studios got her addicted to pills from a very early age. Pills for energy to do a grueling day of work, pills to go to sleep and pills to wake up and start again. They didn't consider her 'hollywood pretty,' so her self esteem was so vulnerable.
I read an account about her and Mickey Rooney appearing in a Christmas Day Parade. She was so hungry as she had not had any breakfast......and at that point in the day....no lunch or dinner either! She was eating candy canes that Santa Claus was giving out to the children because she was so famished! Truly despicably exploitative, mean and insensitive!
With all the other ills she had to succumb to in Hollywood....I'm not surprised about the damage she suffered physically, financially, emotionally and professionally during the latter years of her storied life. So sad for someone who brought so much entertainment joy to so many as a great singer and a great actress!
