The White Knight

I just caught this episode and thought it one of the more interesting, if for no other reason than the cast: a youngish Ted Knight as a policeman, a very young Jessica Walter, and a pre-Mission Impossible Steven Hill. The story of an otherwise charming but philandering politician with a self-pitying, alcoholic wife was not especially new in the movies and TV, even a half century ago, so nothing special here. However, the real joy of this episode is Susan Hayward lookalike Nancy Wickwire as the wife. She does a tremendous job and acts everybody else off the screen, including David Janssen. Embarrassing to admit I’d never heard of her till seeing her here. I guess she was quite a big deal in the soap operas of the Sixties and Seventies.

Nancy Wickwire turned up in many QM shows...I believe she's in another Fugitive episode, as well as single appearances on Invaders, Streets of San Francisco and Barnaby Jones, and an FBI episode or two.

And Steven Hill's character... with those snide, condescending comments, and that quick patronizing smile... wow... what a grease ball !
Definitely entertaining
