UNIT non prescence

It is well known that in the late 1970's with the focus on stories set on alien planets UNIT were phased out. Yet there were stories set on Earth they could have included in, for example Silver Nemesis. With a comet about to crash land on the planet you would think the authorities would send people who were trained to deal with a situation like this instead of a couple of police cars!

I am not sure if this was a deliberate nod to the twenty fifth anniversary.
There were lots of people in that crowd scene from behind the scenes. I know it's not a very good reason but I suppose you could explain away Unit not being there perhaps because Brigadier Bambera was still new to the job and was clued up yet on this type of weird events.

the less unit, the better, for me.
I was not a fan of Unit from the get-go, maybe if I had seen it as a younger person, but as it was, I was sad that the Doctor was stuck w/ them

Silver Nemesis? The absence of UNIT is the least of its problems!

So this is permanence, love's shattered pride.
What once was innocence, turned on its side.

Adding UNIT to the melange that is "Silver Nemesis" would have made it collapse under its own weight.

It would have provided more action although with Cybermen and Nazi fighting each other on screen it would get a little crowded.
