Worst episode

I'm certainly a fan of the show, but can't abide the episode "Who killed super sleuth". Of course, the series used comedy a lot and often had its tongue in cheek, but the parade of awful cliche "suspect" detectives in this one reduced it to the level of a very bad hour long comedy parody. The only thing I liked about it was the detective resembling Nero Wolf being named Caligula Fox.

It's the most inventive episode and played to the series' strengths- comic eccentrics Gene Barry could react to, while acknowledging it's antecedents.

I've always wondered if Neil Simon saw this episode as it resembles his "Murder by Death".

I recently purchased the first season one dvd set and frankly I'm amazed at how bad some of these episodes are, the attempts at witty lines are lame, and every episode is pretty much set up the same way: five minutes with each guest star where Burke all but flat out calls them the culprit and nearly every one of them acting ludicrously "suspicious" (and many of them literally acting badly as if given no direction or having just read the script). Only seeing the classic Hollywood greats in cameos keeps this afloat and even then it's usually disappointing seeing them in these absurd little parts.
