Lots in common with Eddie Murphy's Nutty Professor I?

I was amazed, maybe that's why this movie was kept in the can so long...so many similarities to Nutty Professor. The eccentric professor falls in love with attractive new professor theme, and especially when Eddie Murphy accidentally lets all the lab mice free...there's almost precisely the same scenes, shot for shot, in Zotz and NP.

Perhaps there's nothing original in the world after all. Not that NP was such a classic, it's just my kid's favorite movie so I see it all too much, whereas I just saw Zotz last night from a DVD pairing with The Tingler.

You mean the other way around. Zotz came out long long before the Eddy Murphy Nutty Professor, which is itself a remake of the 1963 Jerry Lewis movie The Nutty Professor. There is also The AbsentMinded Professor, 1961.

And even further back is Bedtime for Bonzo in 1951, Monkey Business in 1952. And of course The Twonky from 1953. And likely others.

They seem to come in waves. The AbsentMinded Professor was remade in 1997 as Flubber.
