Mediocre movie, fantastic opening titles...

Possibly best-ever music & pictures?

I bought the DVD just to keep watching (and listening to) the start....pity about the rest of it!

Thank you Mr Bernstein!

I agree, although I thought much of the movie was a "guilty pleasure", so bad it's a hoot, etc.

But you're right about the opening sequences - a knockout!.

I've downloaded the music from iTunes. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding the version with the vocals by Brook Benton. Anyone know where that version can be found?

Yes, the score was good in the beginning. Not so much later on. On the whole I think this was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Capucine looks old enough (well actually she was old enough) to be Jane Fonda's mother. And Stanwyck was wasted in her part as a lesbian madam.

I agree about the score. I was surprised how bad the music seemed in places. Also, Capucine does look a little mature to be the favorite doll in the house, although she was only 34 years old at the time the movie was released. However, she was actually only nine years older than Jane Fonda.

Came here to post the same thoughts about the film. It would have made more sense if Harvey had been lusting after Jane Fonda's character. Capucine?? looked too old even though she & Laurence Harvey were the same age. When Dove found her most of their lines came off sounding silly because she looked too old. Also in some scenes she was dressed in '60's business clothes a Park Ave secretary would wear which looked odd since it was supposed to be the '30's.

I have friends who love this film as "so bad, it's good". I just found it to be a real clunker - badly acted and just plain dull. Not even the participation of Stanwyck could make it palatable.

The film is pretty ordinary. Capucine looks too old to be the source of fascination for Dove and is also less attractive than the other two women he encounters on the road to get to her.
