The DVD aspect ratio

There have been several complaints on the Amazon website about the transfer being 1.33:1. I would like to reassure everyone that the movie was made in this ratio, so there is nothing missing from the screen and no pan and scan. The Fox/Lorber transfer is not that bad, but the one available from Nouveaux Pictures(Region 2) is better, I think.

Pratically all of Godard's early films (save Le Mepris) were in 1.33:1, so don't freak out, people.

I think our modern eyes are just used to filmmakers being able to to break the composition into 3rds when shooting something in a wider ratio. Some of the shots, especially when two characters are facing each other, felt cut off at the edges because the actors heads weren't fully in the shots. But I know that's not the actual case, just a "limitation" of the film's ratio.
