possibly Godard's best film

this is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen, and I've seen everything Godard made from Breathless to La Chinoisie, and I think that this is probably the best.

It showed their (Godard and Karina) relationship's deterioration in it's last stage, yet he still seemed able to communicate love to her, through this, his greatest masterpiece. And unfortunately it's also one of his most under-seen films.

Yes, Breathless is a revolutionary masterpiece as well, but this isn't about revolution, it's about love and life and death and the meaning of it all of those things as well as everyhting else in the world, every nuinace and every grand issue, everything! and why, why, why!!! And it's also about subtlety.

One of the 10-15 best films ever made.

I'm with you guys, I was surprised by how much I liked this one. The chapter breaks were really cool and I really liked the relationship stuff, her multiple dates, etc.

I don't always connect with Godard, but I did like "Breathless" and "Pierrot le Fou" a lot.

Certainly not of the same quality as Pierrot le Fou in my opinion but a good film nonetheless. There was a real sadness about this film that was influenced by the musical score. I thought Anna Karina was stunning with her ability to project that sadness in her eyes. The inclusion of the Passion of Joan of Arc footage was quite fitting as Maria Falconetti had arguably the most emotive face in silent cinema.

Vivra sa vie took my breath away. JLG should be proud of the result. He was able to push the artistic boundaries mainly because of Anna's charisma. As with most European films from around the early 60s I somehow can't quite dig their style but this one is an exception. I watched Breathless a while ago and it didn't inspire me. Having just watched Vivre sa vie I was tempted to continue on with more of JLG's films. I considered Pierrot le fou but, seeing it's classed as a comedy and I have yet to find a French comedy actually funny, I've decided to end my JLG films on this high note.

For the record, I rated this film 8/10 - very good.

You need to watch some Tati. And Pierrot le Fou is not a conventional comedy. It's a typical Godard film that is self-referential, philosophical, and touches on the differences and features of men and women and their interactions.
