So what... ?

This is just a waste of time, it's a joke, and a mess. She's not beautiful and i feel no empathy, so at this point nothing keeps me watching... But we are required to love her by the movie, while she isn't bright, nor interesting.

The movie kills itself with Porthos' story, and following discussion. Later you can spot some Kafka reminiscences (going into the car), and E.A Poe.

What i find a bad idea, that expanded at this time was to remove all eroticism. See Visconti (Sandra), even Belle du jour, compare with Italian neo-realism, the first movies of C. Cardinale, of Sophia Loren, and even all the nice American actresses, even from the Silent era, now here we have a little average girl, who i find disgusting.. I hate the accent, i hate the way they speak, being gentle but indifferent and slightly sad and accusatory all the time. This is very perverse.

Symptomatically they're often filmed from behind, as if they don't matter. So you can't do a movie like that, against the actors. And all the philosophy since the beginning, you think she will left him but, accusing him to left her just the next moment, this old trick, and in all that, "love", a real affect was never there. All is indifferent but no wait, so this is a double-bind, one of the most toxic mindset ever. Further more, she can't decide anything and her life is viewed through the handbook for prostitution... a reminding of Joyce's Ulysses maybe. Really such an idea is just so ... pointless; I guess Camu's l'Etranger is also involved, in the general indifference...

So Godard didn't want to make a movie, and audience (me) don't want to watch it.
