NOT FOR ME....

For me it's the innocence of the children mixed with the bitterness of racism in the south prior to the civil rights movement. For me the movie, much like the book, is mostly about Scout. While Atticus may be the hero of the film it was Scout who was the conscious of the silent majority.

It's about the universal experience of being a child, and discovering that adults really suck! The details come from the Jim Crow South, but the emotions the children experience are familiar to everyone. All the best movies have that kind of universal appeal.

Although not everything the children experience is universal, the kids in this film actually have one adult in their lives that they can admire, who stands up for both the law and justice, and childhood ideas of fairness. Not everyone had th hat growing up, but everyone wishes they had.

Plus, it's a damn good movie.

It's a pretty good movie. For some, it's a profound movie because it teaches the difficult-to-grasp lesson that it's wrong to accuse somebody of a crime he didn't commit. Holy moly, who woulda thought of that?!

You have a right to say you didn't like it. That's your choice. Not everyone will like everything. There are "classics" of cinema that I do not like.

I always liked it but in light of how radical the left has become with its monstrous BLM and Antifa, I doubt I will watch this movie again.

I had read the book (multiple times) before ever seeing the movie. While I thought the movie was done well, I was a bit disappointed. So much of the story was left out, which I can understand because with a film there is a time limit of around two hours in which to tell the story.

The only way to do the novel justice would be to present it as a miniseries. It would probably have a total run-time of about ten hours.

Just because you don't like TKAM doesn't mean that you are a bad person. Personally, I liked it, and re-watch it from time to time.

I dislike a couple of films that others greatly admire (Arlington Road, and 2001:A Space Odyssey). I was called all sorts of names for saying that, as some felt that EVERYBODY just had to love these absolutely GREAT pictures and if you didn't there was something wrong with you.

As I say, I loved TKAM, but I don't demand that everyone like it just because I think it is a great film.

I agree with the op. Nothing special, and odd how it is so highly prsised.

I call this a 'emperors clothes' film.
