Doris Day the most beautiful actress of all time?

In her time, Doris Day was an absolute knock out. Is she possibly the most beautiful (as opposed to hot or trashy or whatever) actress of all time? The only competition I can think of is Jennifer Connelly, Mai Brett and possibly Angelina Jolie (in her pre-tattoo days) and Ava Gardner.

What do you folks think? Who was the most beautiful actress of all time?

reply

Doris was pretty with a great, bubbly personality that really made up her appeal during her time. However, I don't think she's the most beautiful of all time. Grace Kelly was an absolute knock-out, whether comparing today's or yesterday's actresses. Ingrid Bergman was incredibly beautiful. Ava Gardner, you mentioned is another. Audrey Hepburn was very beautiful as was Natalie Wood.

Moving into contemporary actresses, I still think Aishwarya Rai is tops today.

I think Doris was a great beauty ... an incredible smile that simply lights up the screen!

Well friends....what about Kin Novak, Marylin Monroe & Liz Taylor, even, Susanne Pleshette??. To me, Doris is the most complete (She could sing, acting and dancing) beside her incredible beauty and cheer personality.

I know this is an old post but I'm still going to reply.

I don't think that Suzanne Pleshette was, strictly speaking, beautiful: rather, what she had was probably better that just good looks. I thought her screen persona was intriguing and enigmatic, as well as chic. It didn't ring true to me that Rod Taylor would look twice at Tippi Hedren in "The Birds".

She certainly is beautiful in this movie - esp. in the hotel scene where she's wearing the black evening gown. She has no back to the dress, so that's exactly where Grant starts kissing her. It's sublime!

I agree. She is stunning in that black dress. The dress was beautiful, the hair was fabulous, and her figure was perfect. Really the most beautiful scene.

I heard about different tastes but this is soooo different. Miss Day isn't even beautiful in my opinion. She is kind of "best friend" cute, but not beautiful at all. Grace Kelly - yes, Jean Tierney-yes, Ava, Angelina,Brigitte, Ingrid Tulin - yes, yes, yes, but, I m sorry, miss Day - no way :))?!

This is my favorite Doris movie and yes, she is very pretty in this film. But it is well-known that she had a LOT of freckles and in many of her movies, she is shot with a fuzzy filter, especially in her close-ups. But I still love her. My other fave DD movies - "The Thrill of It All" and "Midnight Lace". although she does tend to overact a bit in that one.

I can't exactly say THE most beautiful of all time- but she was gorgeous. There are many others just as beautiful- most already mentioned in this thread-but it is like comparing apples to oranges-but she was indeed a stunning woman.

She did look beautiful in that backless black evening dress. I don't know why they didn't want to photograph her freckles. Freckled women have a special appeal for me.

Absurdity: A Statement or belief inconsistent with my opinion.

To me Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly are by far the most beautiful actresses. Doris Day was pretty in this movie but doesn't even come close to Hepburn and Kelly.

Nowadays we're blessed with 2 actresses who look a lot like miss Hepburn: Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley.

of her time, Doris Day was a stunning beauty. Anglina Jolie does not hold a candle to Day

She is a great comedienne, but I never found her really attractive.
