Didion and Dunne screenplay

Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne were commissioned to do a new one and completed it. All I know about it is that they ended it with Dick visiting the mass graves of WWI dead and making the sign of the cross. That intrigued me so much I've always wanted to read it. Anyway, I'd like to see a remake.
