Jennifer Jones

Ms. Jones had been off the screen for 5 years and this was Jennifer's return vehicle. David Selznick and 20th created wondrous premiere parties for this film. Jennifer ever reticent gave interviews too to Louella Parsons, Hedda Hopper, etc.

___Jones seemed too old for this rather late in her career film. She seemed to be shot through Doris Day filters, and something about the symmetry of her face bothered me, especially her mouth. There was an odd Picasso quality to her. Also, her girlish exuberance came out at off times and there seemed a desperation to it.
___Robards seems totally lost in the part as if he cannot either fathom his character, or understand why he is in this relationship,
___St. John was acceptable in her small, almost insignificant role. Joan Fontaine, always a classy, if overbearing actress, seemed the best of all.
___All in all, it seemed like a waste of time.

In this movie, Jennifer Jones looks incredibly like Elizabeth McGovern in "Downton Abbey."
