The second story just didn't work for me.

Tone wise the second story is all over the place.

We get these great moments of comedy between Price and Lorre that had me smiling, but there is also spousal abuse, threatened violence towards animals, and infidelity. The two elements didn't really gel very well. The latter elements just prevented me from seeming it as a good horror comedy.

P.S. Did anyone else simultaneously wince and roll their eyes when Helene kept fainting in The Case of M. Valdemar? I like watching older movies, but moments like those completely throw me out of the story.

I actually like the second story the best. I love cats and I love horror so when the two are put together it makes me happy.

Just don't watch older movie than Mr. PC police...

I think it is the best because it has the strongest (and also only non-supernatural) ending.

I don't think the threatened abuse and the infidelity harmed the story. None of the characters were there to be liked or sympathised with. We knew all the time that Herringbone would get his come-uppance. The comedy of this segment was good enough to be re-used somewhat in 'The Comedy of Terrors' with Price and Lorre and Jameson reuniting.
