Curse/vulgar word in 1962?

I watched this with subtitles
and although i'm trying to learn on my own italian language since i was 16,
i still need subtitles to understand what they babble about.

the subtitles translated "*beep*" word in one particular scene.
was this in italian also? he really said f word in a classic movie?!
did they really used f word in cinema before sexual revolution?!
was this common in italian cinema?
amazing!

and hinting about erection also, european cinema was liberated back then in comparison with american - they almost banned psycho because it showed toilet bowl..

reply

imdb censored it.
anyhow, in the film it is used vulgar word for making love,
and for homosexual person - finocchio

now how vulgar is that in italy?

reply

Hi! Just re-watched it after a long time. I can't remember a scene in which they use something equivalent to the "f-word" ("cazzo" ("dick"), in Italian, is the most common), but some words are truncated, i.e. not pronounced integrally.
They actually say "finocchio" ("fag"): Roberto's relatives' butler (or whatever he is) is called with a play on words "Occhio fino", and Bruno explains Roberto (who never noticed it) that he's called that way because he's fag, indeed.
