Italy looks great.

Troy, Suzanne, Rossano and Angie look great.

But that story! What a piece of fluff. Suzie decides to go to Italy, immediately meets Rossano and winds up staying in his mansion and falling in love with Troy who happens to be living there and they tour Italy. Angie supplies a little story as Troy's former lover who comes back to use him.

There just isn't much there. I've recently seen A Summer Place, Parrish and Susan Slade. At least they had real stories, probably because they were based on novels. They must have decided just to make a movie that showed off Italy and had some hack write a narrative that just strung together the travelogue sequences. I would have liked a little more than that.

Ha! Yes, this film is a piece of fluff, but isn't it delightful to see Rome in 1962? I love seeing all the footage they shot there. I am watching this movie right now. I have always thought Suzanne Pleshette was much more attractive than Angie Dickinson. Just my opinion. I love SP's voice, too. She really was a true beauty.

For more old footage of Europe, especially Italy, one of my favorites is If It's Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium. Oddly, it ALSO stars Suzanne Pleshette and a very young Ian McShane, Norman Fell, Marty Ingels, Mildred Natwick, Sandy Baron and the very irritating Peggy Casssssssss. haha. It shows tons of Europe in 1969. And it is a very funny movie.

I like both Suzie and Angie and wouldn't mind being Troy Donahue with the two of them battling over me. I'd seek a truce....

It's basically a "chick flick" and a sort of travelogue. But, yes, Italy is beautiful. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit 22 countries in Europe as a child when my father was teaching at Graz University in Graz, Austria, in 1956/57.

We spent quite a bit of time in Italy. Not only was it amazingly beautiful and full of ancient historical sites, but the food was incredible. My favorite: ravioli with peanut sauce. I've never been able to get any Italian food that tasted as good in the U.S.
