So not too many people like this one huh?

We just watched it last night. I thought it was just as good as the rest. It made me laugh again and again. I thought Dorthy Lamour's part was the funniest bit. It would have been better with her in it more!

Kitty Collins: Tell me, little boy, did you get a whistle or baseball bat with that suit?

I LOVE this one. I know it's heresy, but I'd almost say it's my favorite Road movie.

This is by far my favorite "Road" movie, having also seen "...to Morocco and "...to Singapore"!

The plot is without question completely ridiculous, but even so it's much more coherent than in the other movies, which are basically just Bing and Hope fooling around for 1½ hour with very little rhyme or reason; at least there is a villain with a purpose in this one!

Besides, the Peter Sellers scene alone is enough to win this movie an award - priceless!!! :D

I like it as well, it's not my favourite of the series(Road To Morroco) but it's funnier than some of the others. Relegating Dorothy Lamour to a cameo was a pretty cruel thing to do but Joan Collins was a lot better than I expected and the interplay between Crosby & Hope was as engaging as ever.

I wish I could say I liked this film, I love the series and Bob Hope is my favourite entertainer of all time, but I think Road to Hong Kong is pretty weak. The banana scene was depressing to watch (more embarrassing than funny), both Hope, Crosby and the series deserved a better script. It was sad to see Dorothy Lamour relegated to essentially a cameo. Hope looked amazing though, he was 60, could have passed for mid 40's.

I'm with you, Trina.

I love The Road to Hong Kong. It's my favorite Road picture. I don't know why so many people dislike it. So Bing and Bob are older than they used to be. Who isn't?

My favorite scene is the boys' Fly-It-Yourself scam. The "native pilot" is a no-show (can't blame him) so, of course, Bing bamboozles Bob into taking over and nearly getting himself killed. I love the bit of dialogue when Bing is helping Bob into his gear. It goes something like:

Bob: Why do I always have to do the dangerous stuff?
Bing: It's the nature of the relationship. Just like one of is brawn and the other is flab.
Bob: Have you got a program? So far I don't recognize anyone.
Bing: Well, don't get sore at me. It's just a plot point.

Although I enjoyed the earlier Road films, The Road to Hong Kong is the only one I've bought on DVD. It was that good. I've watched it umpteen times and it always makes me laugh.

The Teamwork song is GOLD.

I agree with most of what you said (although I would purchase all rather than just this one). I believe Bing is looking a bit long in the tooth, but as for filmic quality, no one sees a "Road" movie looking for "Lawrence of Arabia" or "Dr Zhivago;" they are intended to be silly diversion, and this one meets the criteria. They appear to have had fun making it, and we can all have fun watching.
Relax and enjoy !

This film was well done. So many memorable scenes. So many great one liners back and forth between Hope and Crosby. Love the opening Teamwork scene. Love the scene in the Monkey suits and always love it when Crosby takes advantage of Hope.
