In my top 5 favourite Westerns ever.

Ride the High Country epitomizes all that's great about the movies. Two rugged, consummate professionals in the leads, assured & competent direction from the legendary Sam Peckinpah, superb photography that manages to capture the West in a wonderful way, and a script littered with humor and, occasionally, pathos (especially in the climactic scene where Gil and Judd share a final exchange). I knew I'd love this film as soon as I saw the veteran McCrea's Judd stride authoritatively through town near the beginning. It's a nostalgic western and a massively enjoyable one.

I'm with you. Having seen a lot of Westerns I can also claim this one as one of my favorites. It took me a long time to see it, as I figured it would be diet Peckinpah, but it's one of his very best.
