Wow, no comments?
OK, well, I just saw it and was pretty impressed. True the editing is distracting and it was really hard to follow at times...but I'll trade that for the lush visuals and romantic sensibility that infuses the whole film.

Anyway, what impressed me most was the capability of catching human nature, specially women nature. I got really shocked with all Clelia's attitudes and sometimes she was very predictable and she looked like with some women that I once dated.
Another thing that I think Bertolucci catched really well was the instabillity of a relationship that was not equal, sometimes she was more passionate, sometimes Fabrizio was more passionate, and how one try to be "on the top of the relation".

Impressive only for the fact that Bertolucci directed at 22. It is a very difficult film to follow for an English speaker. The subtitles come so thick and fast that I struggled to read everything and certainly was not able to retain what I was reading. It is a documented fact that for every hour you spend reading you will only retain 12 minutes. It was hard to appreciate the location shots of Palma.
Certainly not Bertolucci's masterpiece and also a film I personally shall not be re-visiting.

I watched it to the end and felt like I missed some critical captions somewhere along the way.
I also read the user reviews and was struck by how much the opinions seemed to be shaped around the fact that it was Bertolucci. I wonder how they would have reviewed this film if they were first timers to this film and it was a blind screening with no credits.

I always thought that the value put on reading books is overrated. If the fact you mention is truly an universal constant of the functioning of the human mind, then comics are much better than books, since the majority of their content takes the form of images. This is a valuable discovery, that could fundamentally revolutionize the education system. Course books and the required bibliography could be replaced by comics, greatly improving the student's learning performance. For example, a literature student would be better served by studying a comics version of James Joyce's Ulysses than reading the text of the book itself. share
