is this movie any good???

i'm currently taking "psychology of prejudice and discrimination" in my college this semester and my professor said he was going to show this in a future class so i was just wondering if this movie was any good? i've never seen it before or heard of it ever....

reply

That's not surprising because for some reason it has remained virtually unknown for decades. Your professor obviously thinks it's worthwhile, and I concur. Read some of the comments and reviews here. People have called it "a really good movie" "one of the best movies ever made" etc. It is certainly appropriate for someone taking your course since it shows that racism can result from childhood abuse i.e. it's often projected hatred.

The film is excellent. Both Darin and Poitier put in stellar performances. Stanley Kramer's direction infuses past experiences of a racist inmate with his current psychological profile. The direction and editing is pure creative genius.
It was filmed in the early 60's and it offended many WASP ticket holders. Realism hurts. Darin's name brought in the young teens and they were turned off by the theme of anti-semitism and racist hatred. Today's society can look into the film and see why a man's past cannot filter out such hate. A "Criminal Minds" for the 60's. The only other psychiatrist/patient film that stacks up to this film is found in "Equus"- why a religious boy is torn apart and blinds 6 horses with a metal spike.
"Pressure Point" is a hidden gem of its time. Powerful and honest. Bobby Darin and Sidney Poitier should have gotten the Oscar nod- but Hollywood was afraid.

Is it good? It's so good that if the producer wanted me to do a television commercial for it, not only would I do it- I'd do it for free!!
