Remake: Wesley Snipes + Kevin Spacey

I love this film but it does loose some of its relevance here in modern day. I myself wouldn't mind a remake.

I feel that Wesley Snipes is a very underrated dramatic actor and would fit right in exact in Portier's role. I know I'm being very uncreative suggesting Spacey being that he plays Bobby Darin in 'Beyond The Sea" but Spacey would definately give justice to the role.

I see Spacey reversing his performance in Usual Suspects. Of course Denzel first comes to mind for the Portier role. Although Wesley Snipes would be a better gamble to see a performance you haven't seen much of before.

This movie shouldn't be remaked, just advertiesd!

Couldn't agree more. Why remake an already good film that so few know about?

reply

Snipes as an MD/psychiatrist?? Watch Poitiers's cat-like intelligence and poise, then ask yourself
who really ought to be in the remake. But Snipes? Er no.

reply

Errr, yes. Snipes is a great actor who took too many easy choices in his roles and bad choices in his life. He'll remake himself after the legal troubles are cleared up but he really needs to mend his bridges in the industry and look for challenging roles like the work he did in 'Jungle Fever', 'Waterdance', and 'Mo Better Blues.' The cat is a serious actor but he definitely needs to get out of action figure mode.

He reads his lines like a high school jock who got the lead in the play. Sorry, bud, but for someone
to replace Poitier, we need a finer, shall we say, blade.

This movie doesn't need to be remade. People should see the original. There's really no improving on it.

To Omari:
I'm going to respectfully disagree here and side with poster Lordhack. Snipes screen persona is too hard and rough for this kind of role. He has been typecast as a tough customer and the audience expects that from him by this point. I don't see him as an intellectual sort on screen. He looks like a badass who loves to kick butt. I think Denzel would be perfect as the psychiatrist and Kevin Spacey perfect as the patient. Spacey has that edgy quality which would serve him well in that role and Denzel, who can certainly be tough when he needs to be, has a sensitivity and refinement about him that would mirror what Poitier displayed in the original. And also, he's the handsomest and sexiest man on the planet. He and Poitier are my two favorite actors of all time!

this movie is indeed a small masterpiece, but with the right talent, a remake can be imagined....

Spacey is even 5 years older now than when you posted and he was too old five years ago! Maybe 20 years ago it would have worked.
