a bit odd...

One thing I found a bit strange or unrealistic was the scene where the patient as a boy fled into the meat storage area of his father's butcher business to try to get away from the old man with his piece of liver. Liver may be less palatable than most kinds of meat but does it make sense for a "meatphobe" to hide among big hanging carcasses to try to avoid a piece of liver?

Didn't think about that. Does seem kind of funny now that I think about it.

His fear of his father was larger than any other fears he had. There was no place to escape from his father except through the only door that he had access to. When the world trade center was burning the people trapped at the top were going to be burned to death. They jumped out of the building to certain death because their fear of burning overcame their fear of jumping.

Several other posters have offered plausible explanations. I was struck by parallels between the Patient and Hitler (aside from the fact that they shared the same ideology). Both the Patient and Hitler had troubled relations with their fathers, and both loathed meat (Hitler was a vegetarian).

Your Honor-
My client, Mr. Adolf Hitler, states that he has no knowledge of the event referred to in the historical record as World War II. He was out of town the weekend it started and when he came back the following Monday, his underlings kept him in the dark. He has complete deniability, Your Honor, and we ask that the Court grant our motion for summary judgment dismissing the complaint in its entirety.
