From Trailers From Hell. You can play with or without Brian Trenchard-Smith's commentary. I recommend both:

Thanks for the link! Now I'm going to have to look for that film and rent it. Do you happen to know, has the deleted stuff he was talking about been added back to the film, or is it still in its cut version? I'm assuming moviegoers nowadays are okay with hearing "harlot" and "adulterer," but then again, maybe not... LOL

You're very welcome! I haven't seen the full film yet, but I assume that the "h" word and the "a" word have been restored.

This was made back when people avoided saying the "c" word — "cancer." Oh, how times have changed, for the better (or maybe not ...).

I discovered that a local video store I do business with does in fact have that title in their inventory, so I am going to try to rent it soon. As soon as I do, I will try to get back here and post on how "complete" it is. I really will be disappointed if it turns out to be sans harlot, adulterer, and girl getting eaten alive by hungry piranhas!

Yes, do let us know how intact this film is. And bless you for supporting your local video store! I still have accounts at two of them near me, and I just had to use up my credits at a third because (stop me if you've heard this one before) it's going out of business.

Okay, back from having rented and watched the film on DVD.... As far as the "offensive" words, adulterer and harlot, they seem to have disappeared from the script. The woman in the story who was complicit in adultery was merely referred to as "the unhappy woman." There was a bit of blood included in a couple of scenes: one in which piranha attacked a woman trying to flee through a pond or stream, and another in which some bad guys fell into a concealed pit which contained sharpened sticks, impaling them. But it was kept to a minimum, so don't expect this to be a Hammer Film "gore fest." Not even close.

All in all it was a fairly tame film, but visually it was quite impressive. It was filmed in color, and the colors have held up beautifully, so it was a good transfer to DVD. It did NOT look like it was filmed fifty years ago, that's for sure. The filming location was nice, too: lots of woods, streams, and a big open mining pit that served as a penal colony.

I found it interesting to note that the father and son team in the film, Jason and John Standing, were played by actors (Andrew Keir and Kerwin Mathews) who were actually the same age, both having been born in 1926 - same year as my dad, BTW.

As far as pirate movies go this one was pleasant enough, but nothing spectacular, and had a sort of limp ending that left me feeling a bit gypped. With a better budget and some tweaks to the script, this film could be remade into something a lot more impressive. But as it was, hey, not a bad way to pass a rainy afternoon, to be sure.
