I would like to know how I can obtain a copy of this 1962 movie. It is my alltime favorite.
If I can't purchase a copy, where can I see it in the Washington, D.C. area?

I am also looking for a tape or DVD copy of PHAEDRA. It's one of my favorites too. Please let me know if you find a source.

I, too, would like a DVD copy of this film. I saw it in college in the mid-60's. It was classified as an "art" film then. Tremendous music and performances.

Same here. I saw this film in one of my classes. The department owns the tape so I can't get a cpoy of it. I guess we will have to wait for a Dassin Collection.

Your post is the first time anyone has ever mentioned that a tape even exists. Can you find out where your dept. got it? Then maybe there's a chance the rest of us could tap into that supply.
I saw it in college right after release - the most incredible music I've ever heard, my favorite movie of all time, and what an ending (Beethoven and all)!.....Too bad Tony Perkins never got any credit in the States for that role....

A VHS tape described as "okay" and some DVD-R copies of the Greek version (with non removable Greek subtitles) show up on e-bay and other auction sites occasionally. I had a so-so copy from a commercial television broadcast of about 20 years ago. The quality was passable.
Criterion DVD has released some of Dassen's films on DVD. They have a request section at their website. I have requested they release it. You may all want to do the same.

I wrote to them this morning. I'd love to be able to have a DVD of PHAEDRA. My all time favorite film.

DVD will be released in the U.S. in July of 2007, per MGM Home Entertainment, who currently hold the distribution rights. Stay tuned for further updates.

Don't want to seem impatient, but you said (and you seem to know about these things) that Phaedra will be released on DVD in July 2007.

I can't find any sign of it. Would be very grateful if you'd let me know how to find it (I've been looking/hoping for a copy for 40 years now).

It looks like you can buy it now on Amazon... the American one, or UK.
