Perkins just can't pull off a love scene

His love scenes have ZERO passion! There were times he didn't even kiss Melina Mercouri's character back. His lips were just there, barely touching hers. Seriously?! He was supposed to be madly in love with his Stepmom!

Was it because of his homosexuality that he just couldn't interact with women in this way? But come on, he was an ACTOR. It was his job. He was a gorgeous man in bed with a beautiful woman. I expected to see some sparks. But nothing. Very disappointing.

Sorry but I disagree. He was conflicted from the beginning. His being gay in real life had nothing to do with his acting. And yes he WAS gorgeous!

Perkins had relationships with people of both genders, and I agree that it had nothing to do with his performances. Funny how people don't hold gay actors like Rock Hudson and Tab Hunter to the same standard in their love scenes with actresses.

He was fantastic in this movie.

Alex was a virgin when they first kissed, he probably didn't know what to do. Perkins has played romantic leads before so it has nothing to do with his sexuality. Contrary to what you said I think it was an ingenious act for him to be non responsive during the kiss as he's unsure what to do yet when Phaedra pulls back from the kiss, he smiles and is willing to learn and go through with the affair.
