In the opening scene of the film we see Harry fiddling with his nifty spin cast combo. (Which a SERIOUS fisherman probably wouldn't mess with) Later we see the daughter fishing with what appears to be string tied to a home made pole. We never see it well enought to know for sure, but any rig you can cast & retreive is a hundred more times effective than the branch, handline, bobber, combination.
The goof I've ALWAYS noticed is when RIGHT b efore the first nucelar attack Ray asks June what time it is and she replies 6 15 but the radilo announcer says it's 7 15 a hour's descrpincy
shareYep. Just heard it. Also, the son, when leaving the house complains about it being 4:30am - yet its fully daylight. Of course he may have been referring to the time they had to wake up to prepare for the trip.
shareThere are a lot of inconsistencies in the storyline. Like many low-budget movies, there probably weren't a lot of re-takes, and they had to splice together what they had. If they didn't have something, they would splice in footage from somewhere else (i.e. the shots of the L.A. freeways where there should have been four-lane highways).
shareThe footage of the "main road" they had to cross was obviously a urban freeway -- there's no way there was an 8 lane freeway in the sticks. When they got ready to cross over it you could actually see buildings fronting the other side. It must have been shot on a lot someplace.
shareThe location that you see the characters and cars whizzing by is a lightly traveled highway north by northeast of L.A.; the cars are driven by stunt drivers, extras, and others hired for the part. The shots when the car crosses at night were staged on the back lot, as you say, and of course the interspliced shots of the freeway are inconsistet, as well.
