$3/Gallon Gas, OMG

That would be a steal in Cali today

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

reply

Well, since the movie was filmed 50 years ago and gas was probably 35 cents/gallon $3.00/gallon was quite shocking.

reply

Yeah I know, actually back then it prolly would be about a quarter a gallon. You watching it on TCM now too? They are chopping the bridge up.

reply

Yes, I'm watching it. Frankie Avalon is a horrible actor.

And Ray Milland doesn't look so severely alcoholic yet. I was surprised to read that Milland directed PIYZ. I knew he did some B-movies late in his career but didn't realize he directed them. I actually like Milland very much. I thought he was very talented and yet unfortunately, tortured by his own demons.

reply

Ray was cool, but Frankie was just Justin Beiber of the 60s

You want to have sex with really bad B-movie actors? There are plenty of them out there for you.

reply

Old Frankie is prolly in some retirement home for b actors. But maybe we can hook up Karen.

I ain't too glamorous but I am not a schmuck or a pig

reply

When I was watching this part I thought, "Oh, Ray Milland, if you only knew...."

reply

Didn't think my thread would get this far.

reply

Frankie had tons more personality than Bieber.

34 cents per gallon was fairly standard from early 1960 until about 1967.

That would be the equivalent of about $2.60 per gallon now. $3 a gallon then would be about the same as $23 per gallon now.

reply

And 3 years later and it has been around $3 a gallon here in NYC lately!

reply

I think I paid $2.34 here in Oklahoma. That was yesterday, BTW.

reply

Yes, but you're in Oklahoma. But seriously, I don't personally check gas prices that often, but I know I have seen them pretty low this year, compared to the last few years.
