Is this film Racist?

I just watched this film on YouTube and I just couldn't stop thinking what a step back in time this is for a movie shot in L.A. First off, the entire cast is White Anglo-Saxon Protestant, and English is the only language spoken.
Today the NAACP would be investigating it - since there is no one speaking Spanish; no African-Americans or Asian actors, etc. Ah, the good old days...

No; I don't believe it is racist. What I can't figure out is, why this modern tendency to see racism in everything?

I had a quick google. In 1960 there was 91% white people in the state of California. It was a really posh state and was predominantly white and white owned living. Compton was a white suburb for the middle class.

Was there a systematic racism in place in 1960. Yes.
Is this movie trying to be overtly racist. No.

Exactly jonathanmarklund... of the many things you could say this movie is, racist is the least. It's sexist... it's nationalist... it's xenophobic... judgmental prejudice and bigotry all over the place but not particularly racist. Of course, he never encountered black hoodlums or hardware store owners. I get the feeling race wouldn't have made a difference with a guy like him.

Jesus, shut up, all of you! Well, except for Gary. Maybe if I warm you up a bottle of milk or change your diapers, you'll stop crying? Everything is racism this, homophobe that! Maybe he was the biggest racist and would have done a few lynchings if he wasn't trying to avoid nuclear fallout.

I swear the crap that comes out of people's mouths these days! Hey, I'm holding a can of Pepsi Max, maybe you can find some racism in that?

reply

Agreed buddy. Next people will be saying that the movie should be remade to include transgenders otherwise banned. This world is full of whiny babies. Sorry to burst your bubble, I won't be joining you 'sheeple'. Party on with trigglypuff sheep. Enjoy the world you are building.
