I almost got a heart-attack...

In the ending.

Never happened to me before... My heart literally stopped beating for a second.

Anyone else felt the same way? Any other movies like this one?

reply

I wouldn't go that far, but I was watching it late at night and was half-asleep; suffice it to say that the ending woke me up in a hurry!

reply

Even though I expected the ending twist to happen the way it did, it was a "WOAH!" Because it came so fast.

reply

another movie similar, but not as fast as a Twist ending, is The Sixth Sense, but im sure you've seen that already.

reply

Check out "A Big Hand For The Little Lady". Different twist but a great movie.

reply

I heard about the ending before, so I thought I knew what was coming. Wow, was I surprised. My heart stopped beating for a second too, I did not expect that at all.

reply

Planet of the Apes (1968 version) ending is pretty shocking too. I never really watched it until a few years ago, and I was like "Wow". I don't know why I was shocked because that ending has been talked about and spoofed so much in our society over the years. I guess I never really paid attention to all the spoofing and such.
But can you imagine being in the audience when the movie first came out and seeing that ending? I am imagining huge gasps in unison, in theaters all over America, and the World back then. And it was something you certainly would NOT want those who seen the movie to reveal to others who did not...you would defiantly want them to get that same unique experience.

reply

Agreed. The ending of Planet of the Apes was great, though I kind of saw it coming. Wish I had attended the first screening...

Another one would be Mulholland Drive for me. But I think An Occurrence had the biggest effect on me, even though I had read the short before and thus knew what was going to happen.

reply

I was a kid when POTA came out, and saw it in the theater. The ending was a great surprise. But I did see the ending of Mulholland Drive coming. Maybe because I have seen so many movies with twist endings, and knowing Lynch too.

reply

I saw Planet of the Apes when it first came out. I distinctly recall walking home from that movie on that night, even though it was 45 years ago.

The ending was a shock of course, but what really creeped me out was heston waking up and finding his crewmates dead/mummified. I was 8 years old and that was what really got me.

reply

A great short...but it left me hanging.

reply

This short had me on the edge of my seat until his "escape." The ending made the initial tension and subsequent moments of respite all the more shocking. Extremely well done.

Life is full of misery, loneliness, and suffering - and it's all over much too soon.

reply

Ive seen plenty of movies with great twist endings, and compared to Jacobs Ladder, Stay, Th Sixth Sense, the Others, and another 20 more maybe, this one was average

But its probably amongst the first movies like this, so when the movie came out, it must have been a great ending

Darkness lies an inch ahead

reply

I get your point..

Although as soon as he passed through the non-too subtle image of the big gates i realised where this was going, yes the very sudden, dramatic cutting did still shock.

few visible scars

reply

Not me. I actually kind of guessed the ending a few minutes before it happened.
