I thought this movie was really great, but I didn't quite get (SPOILER HEREEEEEE!!!!!!!!) why that tape recording of him talking made people go crazy or freak out or whatever. Was it cursed? I just didn't really understand that. Anyone know?

Yes, the tape was cursed. Remember when it arrived, Tansy was concerned that it was tampered with. She knew that someone was trying to attack them supernaturally, as evidenced when she found the small doll hooked in the lamp shade after the Bridge get together. She wanted him to check who it was from, but there was no return address or name. Flora placed the spell on the tape, and only believers could hear the supernatural sounds. Even Flora was bothered by it when exposed to it. Interestingly, Norman could hear it too at the end, showing us that he now believes.
