My understanding was that a house located somewhere between Nutswamp Road and Oak Hill Road that belonged to a family named Bulmer was used during the filming of The Miracle Worker. It may have been somewhere along the Navy road. I grew up in that area and was told by friends that lived in a neighborhood called Cotton Ridge that you could see the house from the back side of the neighborhood. The house looked haunted, we never went back there.

Also, there was a part for a young black boy who may have visiting the home (in the movie). This part was played by the Fisher brothers (twins) of Middletown. If you're familiar with Middletown folklore of the 60's, the Fisher brothers went on to become high school football stars. Their older sister (known to me as Ms. Fisher) was the coolest art teacher in the entire world. I used to think she could have been Jimi Hendrix's girlfriend. Their father was known as Doc Fisher who ran a trucking & trash removal business.

The boys were twins and used in the movie one at a time. A clever way to get the most out of what may have been a short attention span. Drop me a line if you're interested in more Middletown folklore at [email protected]
