UH, NOBODY 'overacted' in this picture....

in my view everyone was superb including Inga and Victor.

They weren't just flipping out, although that was certainly part of it. They were testing Helen's sight and hearing by waiving the lantern in her face and snapping their fingers (Mrs.), clapping (Capt.), and screaming & bellowing to try to get her to see & hear them.

I like watching Inga Swenson and her reaction in this scene but-- if I had to say, her "she--can't--hear'--'you" may have been overdone

I agree...they all were. But really....Bancroft and Duke were absolutely stellar. I'm watching the 7-minute breakfast scene right now, for about the 50th time.......superb.

And funny!!! I like the little bits of humor used throughout the film. Both teacher and student were feisty, determined and beautiful together.

Also Andrew Prine as James Keller - very good work as the soul-beaten son of the house. I always liked his nighttime scene with Annie, and the moment where he stops Captain Keller from going after Annie and Helen - Annie has, after all, taught him her lesson. Helen isn't the only miracle that Annie's worked in the Keller household.
