DVD from Fox Cinema Archives November 2012

Madison Avenue is getting its home video debut when FCA releases it on DVD-R in late November, 2012 (specific date varies slightly from site to site). Retail price is $19.99 and there are no extras.

Caution: Thus far most (though not all) of the CinemaScope films issued on the FCA line have been released in substandard pan-and-scan prints, not in their original widescreen aspect ratios. This decision is not only inexplicable, bizarre and pointless -- especially when virtually all DVDs (with a very few odd exceptions) are always released in their proper aspect ratios -- it's a real slap in the face to the customer. It's doubly unfathomable since it was Fox that pioneered the modern widescreen film starting in 1953.

UPDATE -- with BAD NEWS! Unfortunately, it's confirmed: FCA's Madison Avenue DVD is indeed "fullscreen", i.e., pan and scan. It is not letterboxed in its correct 2.35:1 a.r. This seems pretty much standard FCA practice. WHY? Utterly ridiculous.
