Robert Mitchum is an absolute boss in this film

This classic movie is packed with big name actors. For me, Robert Mitchum as General Norman Cota stands out. A leader who commands from the front.

He leads his men on to Omaha Beach, and rallies them when landing descends into carnage. I love the speech he gives his men to get off the beach and move forward. He is fully aware that if the landing at Omaha fails, the invasion fails. It's fitting that one of the final shots of film, is he on a fill smoking a cigar and watching men and vehicles move inland. Classic.

It's funny how he does seem to outshine John Wayne of all people in this movie.
