Why wasn't this movie aired Last June 6th?

It would seem to me that it would have been a nice idea to have shown this movie last June and I was surprised it wasn't.

I noticed that too...turns out it just played the week before on veterans day.

I agree . . . I didn't see it listed anywhere . . . what I do, always beginning on June 1, is play the DVD . . . and just keep playing it until past June 6 . . .

Veteran's Day is in November, it probably played on Memorial Day.

Same thing this year; Memorial day it was on 'rotation' on AMC;

It seems odd to me that they can't schedule a movie for its proper time--everybody knows it concerns D-day, June 6th--schedule it for that week . . .

reply

That's what DVD's are for. I know I refuse to watch this on AMC because the Three hour move turns out to be like 10 hours long with the commercials every 10 Minutes.

Yes, I understand . . . but to commemorate the event, draw attention to it, allow younger viewers to watch, or casual viewers . . . who might turn into fans of the pic . . .

reply

If AMC would air it without commercials I would agree with you. But to assault Little Kids to commercials for "Orange is the New Black" every 10 minutes kind of defeats the purpose

The LD is one of the movies I watch on Memorial Day. Another is "They Were Expendable". I recommend it if you have not seen it. The story of American sailors, soldiers and Marines eventually left behind on Bataan and Corregidor. Being the son and nephew of many WWII veterans, it is something I can never forget. For younger people, these movies may be interesting but probably little personal connection.

You're right. By chance I was working in May-June in France and it was playing there. There were also several weeks of airplay devoted to the allied troops (especially Americans). Weeks... not days like here in the US. Really made me appreciate the French.
