do younger people know this film?

I was surprised recently to find a workmate in his forties who has never seen this film,he says he likes war movies but has never seen THE LONGEST DAY?

This surprised me but is it not well known anymore, too long? in black and white?

The more I study the history the more I feel the role of the Western allies is understated in current times.

If you read Beevor's book on D Day,along with other sources,I think you can say
that the fighting on the Western front was just as hard as that on the Eastern front.

Of course the scale of the battles were smaller but the idea that the western allies had an easy task against the Germans is just silly.

even without throwing-in the war in the pacific, your point stands on solid and hallowed ground.
