The horse

I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful and SMART horse when I saw this over 40 years ago.

Me, too. I cried so hard at the end.

I haven't seen this in so many years but that last scene with the horse was so heartbreaking. I console myself that the horse was just acting. I wonder how easy it is to train a horse to act like that.

Beautiful creature. I liked Jack, but I wanted Whiskey to survive more than I did him!

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

reply

Now that I consider it, I did too. Still cry my eyes out at the end, even though I've seen it many times.

For me especially the scene when it looked like Whiskey would slide back down the mountainside. How could the trainer be sure he wouldn't fall and get hurt? With the truck scene, it was rather obvious to me how they could fake something but on that steep mountainside...

I hate to break this to you but before the '80's and the mass slaughter of horses in the movie Heavens Gate horses were routinely slaughtered to make movies

reply

To this day, I can't watch Stagecoach because of the trip wires used to make the horses fall down.

reply

I did actually know that. Lots of horses were eaten throughout history, too, by humans and their pets. That doesn't make the end of the movie any less sad
