Quilty character unbelievable and ridiculous.

Peter Sellers greatness aside, those scenes with Quilty make no sense. We first see him in that house where Humbert shows up to kill him, and he jokes the whole time. Then at the dance, fine, but then he shows up at that hotel pretending to be a policemen and has that weird conversation while looking in the opposite direction of Humbert. Then he shows up at his house pretending to be a school psychologist, this is the most unbelievable scenario of all. He threatens to have a team of psychologists come over and observe Lolita's homelife unless she can be in his play?! And Humbert goes along with each scenario, not questioning them. Not to mention that mute girl sidekick. I didn't read the book, which maybe explains it, but I mean WTF?!

Sellers got out of control and spoiled the role. Quilty is not unbelievable in the book.
