Is film worth a watch?

I'm a huge fan of Stanley Kubrick and I want to watch more of his films. (I've only seen five.) Is Lolita any good? Should I give it a watch? I don't care about the subject matter. I just want to know if it's a good film. That's all.

If it can be thought, it can be filmed.

reply

Absolutely. If you don't like it you can always turn it off, right?

It is a very good film. Easily an 8/10 and a must see in my opinion.

Thanks a lot for the recommendation guys. I just finished watching it and I have to say I'm really impressed with this one. It did not disappoint at all. I'm glad I saw it.

don't understand that statement, ie surely the "subject matter" is the main issue in determining the "goodness" of a movie.

I think you care a lot about the subject matter,Lester. In another thread on this board, you go on about how 15 is the most attractive age for a woman. Sounds like you have some issues.

well according to the Lolita story [and another massacre - this time Elliot Roger] the ISSUES are with those who DON'T get wild oats when they are young.

Night alludes to it in Signs with "why can't they get girlfriends?"

sounds like you are in that category - am I correct?

like is that a selfie of you in your avatar thingo?

do you see yourself in the video below by the banana slug shrink?

Wild oats when they're young? How *beep* old are you? You are a twisted and creepy person.
Even if someone truly thinks girls are most attractive at 15, you don't *beep* openly tell people

LOOLOLLOLLOLOOL WHAT
Okay now that's messed up, girls haven't even completely developed their bodies then...

It is a good film but as a self-described "huge fan of Kubrick" shouldn't you see it regardless of what a bunch of strangers on an Internet message board think? Only you can decide if the film was worth your watching it after you've seen it.

Film no worth a watch. Film worth sideways glance. No mo'.

This film is like nails on a chalk board. Shelley Winters is a complete joke as an actress. She can not act to save her life. It is so obvious she is acting its nauseating. It is like someone pretend acting in real life that is how bad it is. No way you will be able to stand watching this garbage I only came to this site to vote it a 1/10.

No, she isn't. If you were more familiar with her work, you probably wouldn't say that. -_-"

Yes, she is "obvious." It was intentional. Charlotte was a pretentious person. Winters even said many years later in an interview that she pretended to be more artistic and sophisticated than she actually was.

That said, the scene before her suicide is haunting and tragic because it was Charlotte at her most vulnerable and genuine moment. Despite being obnoxious, she does manage to garner sympathy for her character.

I'd recommend the book. But the movie version is still far better than most comedies of the time. So if you like black comedies, yes.

I watched all of Kubrick's movies except this one. Then one day I watched it. I was completely blown away.

Who said Kubrick wasn't emotional? Who said Kubrick couldn't be humorous? This film has all that. And it's very emotional in the end and it gets the audience.

This is easily one of the more overlooked Kubrick classic (probably due to the controversial subject matter of an adult man & an underaged girl, which got heavy censorship at the time).

Definitely worth a watch.
