Awaiting DVD

Hey, 20th Century Fox, let's get a dvd out on this fine film. It should bode well on dvd with its striking African photography, throbbing musical score, great animal sequences and believable acting from William Holden, Capucine, Trevor Howard and especially young Pamela Franklin. Hurry...

I have managed to track down a Region 2 wide screen 2.35:1 DVD transfer of The Lion. It's been released by 20th Century-Fox in Spain and I bought one off an eBay seller. It was a bit expensive, but it was worth it. It arrived today and, although it's not 16 x 9 enhanced, the letterbox image inside the 4 x 3 frame is very clear and so is the sound. It has been wonderful to see the whole film CinemaScope width again for the first time in nearly 48 years. The seller has two copies left if you're interested. I am pasting in the link to the eBay item page. The DVD box is in Spanish, but the film is the original English version the dialogue of which you can access on the menu by clicking on "Ingles." Otherwise, you get the film dubbed in Spanish. There are also a few copies being sold by amazon uk market place sellers. Why Fox decided to release this DVD in Spain instead of the UK or the US is anybody's guess. Here is the link.
