NO NO NO WRONG!!!!!

ugh. the user review for this movie annoyed me to NO end.

the one stating that the actress was afraid of the lion and only acted with him because of "men with guns being present".

I just read the book ZAMBA. It reduced me to tears a number of times but the whole point of the book was about the lion named Zamba, the lion in the movie. He was brought up by behaviorist Ralph Helfner (who incase you dont believe me is even listed in the credits) using "affection training". He never permitted ANY guns to be on set with his lion, and if there were they were filled with tranquilizers. The lion itself was, well, i hate to say docile because it was an exotic animal, but it was brought up using such amazing training that it was safe.

If you don't believe me check out the book Zamba. I looked up this movie after reading about it in the book. There is even a picture of actress Pamela Franklin relaxing by laying against Zamba in the middle of the book.

100% correct, the true star of this movie was Zamba, the book is wonderful, funny and sad all wrapped up in a love story between a man and his lion, or a lion and his man. The ending was a beautiful conclusion, everyone should read this. The lastest I'd found on Ralph was he has tours in Africa based out of the club, have a great week all..

Lizz, I too have read and been have been moved by Zamba. It is my favorite book. I am also going to buy his other books (Modoc, etc). I haven't seen this movie...I only discovered it by reading Zamba. I am soo eager to see every movie Zam was ever in. I feel like I know him, I'm sure everyone does after reading it. :D

So sad that a beautiful wild creature was made into a "pussycat".

reply

Hmmm yes, sad that this beautiful wild creature had a long healthy life (I believe in the book they said he was 18 at the time of his death) whereas in the wild he would have grown to the healthy old age of around 8. So sad that he had a friend and owner that had access to medical help that cured him of an abscess in a tooth, that in the wild would have forced him to stop hunting and eventually starve to death. Although I think the most sad thing was how this "pussycat" was instrumental in the whole change of how animal training is done, instead of using fear and negative reinforcement (which only made the animals more prone to attack) instead this "pussycat" was reared using love and positive reinforcement which made him a more stable animal to work with on the film sets and everything else he did.

While male lions do help with the hunt, pretty much the entire pride takes part, so he wouldn't have starved.

Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something.
