Capucine - Two Observations

1. While she was certainly an attractive woman, I don't think she was the stunning beauty some claim. But I only have "The Lion" as a reference.

2. I was really impressed with her near accentless English. Especially since she started her study as an adult.

Capucine was so elegant, rest her soul. It was horrifying to read that she committed suicide by jumping off a building at age 62! I have no idea why she'd have done this, other than perhaps with age comes fading beauty and perhaps she couldn't bear it, I don't know. May she rest in peace.

reply

She did it because she was severely bipolar, i.e. she was compelled because that's how her illness manifested. It wasn't her first attempt.

I think Capucine was stunningly beautiful, elegant & refined. I too was shocked to learn how she died.

For one, she was a woman out in the bush of Africa, not in the casinos of Monte Carlo, so she wasn't all dolled up. For another, she was 34, past her "stunning beauty" prime. People aged faster back then, too, as an example, Trevor Howard looked 65, but was only 49 in The Lion, and William Holden looked older than 45.

Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something.
