No score tops this for sheer sweep and magnificence, as well as sense of place.

#2 - Chinatown. Does any score convey mood better or more economically?

The Ten Commandments Elmer Bernstein

How the West was Won Alfred Newman

Spartacus Alex North

Ben-Hur Miklos Rosza

Maurice Jarre is a well known composer of movie scores. This movie and Doctor Zhivago are tops.

Goldfinger & On her majesty's secret service
Superman

And easily 10 more.

You do know Lawrence of Arabia came out long before Star Wars.

Not really, the "famous" theme is good, the rest is boring. One of the most dullest movies ever actually.
