I guess it was dubbed for non english speaking audiences. Are you sure that's Orson? His face looks a bit. . .boxish.

It's definitely him, he was already getting a bit fat by then.
He's actually speaking Italian in the role but they over-dubbed his voice with someone else's.

My source is quite reliable since it's the man himself being interviewed by Peter Bogdanovich in "This is Orson Wells".

I think YOU are making the mistake of thinking I don't know what I'm talking about pal, I was raised watching classic Italian cinema from the second I was born.

I know both about La Ricotta's cutting after the trial and the choice of voice for Orson, fact is that Pasolini still thought it would have been ideal to have Orson's original voice but that turned out to be a point of compromise with the producers and since it was just the accent that was an issue, Bassani was his other deal-making favourite choice.

Another fact is that you talk like you don't seem to know that, regardless if Pasolini liked the voice-dubbing technique or not, EVERY single movie produced in Italy up to the mid 80s was dubbed in post-production since there was no such thing as live sound-recording for several reasons, and the voices you hear in the original sound, do not belong to the faces you see on screen in most cases; just saying in case it wasn't clear.

Just because Rizzoli produced all those great movies did not make him immune from idiotic choices, I do not know however if it was anything to do with him personally in this case.
The main prize for both idiocy and genius in production though should probably be shared between Dino De Laurentiis and Carlo Ponti.

The weird use of dubbing, what you call "compromise"...

You just like distorting whatever the sense of what I write mister, that's your interpretation. I think the only "weird" here might be yourself.

Again, this only prove that dubbing a foreign actor was the common way, and has nothing to do with idiotic producers.

Again: and who the hell was arguing against that fact???? Do you need a basic lesson in English? "Dubbing" a voice and "using" a voice are not the same thing at all!
What I meant is that the dubbing process was something that was happening anyway for all the actors involved but they could have still used Orson's original voice at the sound-recording session, like they did for some other actors, if they wanted to.
And that's the only intellingent thing you have written in your last three posts.

Which takes the score up to 1 - 0 in my favour mr.I-know-it-all-even-though-I-was-never-there; I begin to suspect this might be all actually about football, did Italy kicked your cour country's ass in the European competition recently? Non that I remotely care, just a thought.

Pasolini would have most probably understood or loved trying to understand it, why shouldn't you? Not a fan of the peasantry or what Pasolini really loved I guess?

It's so funny that you go to such extent to defend Pasolini's producers yet using the word "terrone" as an insult completely ignoring the fact that Pasolini absolutely loved the "terroni", their rough language and their culture, wrote poetry about them and even cast them in his movies, preferring them to educated actors.

You are the one who has started insulting, go back reading what you have written, I might have called call someone "imbecile" but it was neither you or intended in a mean way unlike you constant rant.

Still, in the end, there is not a single line among what you wrote that actually disproves that the episode I have mentioned could have not also happened, you are just going on describing generic facts about Pasolini's modus operandi but saying nothing that automatically voids Welles' version of the facts or any reliable source that comments on that thing specifically. I am sure someone will appreciate the info anyway.
