Dead Sequels!!!

Wikipedia.org

Due to this films great box office success, Toho had wanted to do a sequel almost immediately. The sequel was simply called Continuation: King Kong vs Godzilla. However the project never got off the ground.

In 1991, the film was to be remade as Godzilla vs King Kong as part of the Heisei Series. However, Turner Entertainment, who claimed to be the owners of the original film, asked too much money for Kong's use. Next, Toho thought to make Godzilla vs Mechani-Kong, but was again stymied by Turner, who claimed Mechani-Kong was too similar to Kong. In the end, the film became Godzilla vs King Ghidorah.

I would'ved loved more movies about the two fighting. I'd stand a remake if it was done right, and a co-production.

Heh, the only reason Toho wanted to make more movies about the two fighting, was to get the win back.

You mean they wanted Godzilla to win in a sequel?

They had 'King Kong vs Ebirah' ready to go, they wrote a script, built the sets but RKO refused...so King Kong Escapes got made instead

Didn't know that. RKO not want him fighting more Toho monsters or something? Make him take center stage again? I'd like to King Kong Escapes, too bad Toho couldn't use that Mecha-Kong in any other movies. That was pretty cool.

I hope to see KKE soon. Kong fighting a robot version sounds so cool. Too bad they never really expanded on that idea either.

Both DVDs came in today. I can't wait to watch KING KONG VS. GODZILLA again.

Got around to watching them both. Might watch KKvsGZ again tonight on the big screen this time.

I haven't seen King Kong vs. Godzilla since I was a kid, and I still love it. Much better than some of the other VS films in the Godzilla series. I will agree with most reviewers the American filmed footage is pretty pointless and just distracts from the actual story. Electricity makes Kong more powerful, hah, that's so stupid it's funny.

King Kong Escapes had it's moments, but was the less of both movies I think. Not much actual fighting went on with him and Mechani-Kong, the struggle on top of the tower was cool. And I knew I recognised that Rhoades Reason guy (or whatever his name is). His older brother was in This Island Earth.

Maybe in that 'VS' remake Toho planned to make, they would've made Kong look like an actual ape. No CGI, but good costumes and actors like the ones used in King Kong Lives.

Rhodes Reason (who looks like his brother very much)

I know, I thought it was Rex at first. Maybe he just looked a little different because this is like ten years after This Island Earth. But it's his younger brother.

Now this is like who owns what rights? Who does Ted Turner think he is?

What if the USFL had survived? Well if it had I bet the NFL would not have the Carolina Panthers being the USFL had the Michigan Panthers.

Now Turner as rights to Warner Brother movies. BIG DEAL! Does that mean he has the ownership of Batman? I don't think so! The orginal Batman with Adam West and Burt Ward was made by 20th Century Fox so if they wanted to do a movie of Batman they have the right to do so based on that theme.

Now the King Kong thing! The orginal King Kong was put out by RKO Radio Pictures and King Kong vs Godzilla by Japan with Universal. The same is with the movie later called King Kong Escapes! I say, "Hello, Ted wake up and smell the coffee your not the god you think you are."
