The King Kong in this movie was a force of nature not just a Giant ape.

Unlike the original who was just a species of giant ape (the DVD of the Peter Jackson movie even scientifically catagorizes him as MEGAPITHECUS), in THIS movie he's an island god. An elemental force given flesh and is therefore a match for Godzilla.

This movie was a clash of elemental forces.
Godzilla represented the unlikely but obvious combination of Fire and Water. He rose from the depths and crushed everything in his path like a tsunami and spat searing hot irradiated flame.

Kong represented Earth and Air. He was as strong and as sturdy and unyielding as the mountains he lived on and then drew extra strength from the air above in the form of lightning.

That's why the battle could have gone either way.

Superb analysis.

Superb indeed.

The original script had Godzilla vs Frankenstein. In that script, Frankenstein drew his power from lightening. When Kong replaced Frankenstein, they still kept the original script.

Wasn't the original idea before that for a King Kong vs Frankenstein movie?

The original idea was to have King Kong battle a monster created by Frankenstein's grandson. The script went through multiple revisions before finally becoming King Kong versus Godzilla. Afterward, Godzilla versus Frankenstein was considered as a possible sequel, but that film ended up becoming Frankenstein Conquers the World with Baragon filling in for Godzilla. War of the Gargantuas - a pseudo sequel to Frankenstein Conquers the World - was also made from the original King Kong versus Frankenstein concept. So one film concept became three movies, yet the originally intended monsters never crossed paths.

Great analysis in the first post, btw. I never would have thought about the complimentary elemental aspects.

You're over thinking here. Its a movie about a giant ape and sea monster. Thats all
