The rodent monster

I just read through some of the comments here, and I couldn't disagree more. One guy gave the movie a high rating but said that the stop motion effect was horrible. I feel the complete reverse about the film -- the movie itself is a piece of garbage except for the little stop motion scene that was designed by Wah Chang and Jim Danforth. Many people are saying that this effect is "cheap" or subpar, and they are showing their ignorance. This is a very well done effect, this is an example of really good stop motion work.

It certainly doesn't rank up there with a Willis O'Brien or Ray Harryhausen creation, but it was a a pretty good filler creature. I think the film had an interesting plot, but the budget was miniscule and the writing might not have been the best. In any event, I'd say the best part of the film is the women.

I thought that rat monster was pretty cool as well, but have to give more points to those insanely hot women the astronauts encounter on Uranus.

I agree with you I think the stop motion scene was pretty good but the movie overall very weak

I agree. The cyclops Rattasaurus was the sole highlight of the movie for me.

Probably the strangest thing about the ratclopse to me, is I never would have known it was a rodent if I wasn't told that. It's movement was a bit off, but, like others have said, there were only a few true masters of stop motion. This was professional work, just not top notch. It certainly fit with the rest of the film's look.

Part of the fun of these things is the "weird" factor of the F/X.
