Excuse me, does anybody know which song of which singer is the song of the record played by the soldiers on the old grammophone? I like it very much, it touches my soul.

I came here for the exact same reason as you. If anyone can provide any information on that song, I would be very grateful. I remember the lyrics said (in the english subtitles on the criterion DVD) “They tell Masha not to go beyond the river. They tell Masha not to love the young man.” But that is pretty much the only thing I know about this song.

Thank you very much for your help. Now I also understand that the song has also some connection with the movie. As I understand, the internet site you pointed out to me is meant for downloading for a small fe. I will try to do it. It is actually the same version of the song that can be heard in the movie.
